Sales Start Off Strong in 2010

February 3, 2010 -- Greater Toronto REALTORS® reported 4,986 transactions through the Multiple Listing Service (MLS®) in January 2010. This result represented a large increase over the 2,670 sales in January 2009 when the home sales were in a recessionary trough. In addition to up to $2,000.00 in Land Transfer Tax Rebates from the Provincial Government, the Federal Government recently introduced 2 more money saving incentives for first time home buyers;

• Providing first-time home buyers with additional access to their Registered Retirement Savings Plan savings to purchase or build a home by increasing the Home Buyers’ Plan withdrawal limit to $25,000 from $20,000.
• Assisting first-time home buyers by providing up to $750 in tax relief to help with the purchase of a first home.
